WH40k Book Club Book 4: Dark Imperium: Plague War by Guy Haley

Every month, Keri and I will be reading a new book in the WH40k universe and discussing it on our podcast. We invite you to read along with us and join in on our conversation via comments, Twitter, email, or vox cast.

This month we’re reading Dark Imperium: Plague War, by Guy Haley. You can purchase on [easyazon_link identifier=”1784969109″ locale=”US” tag=”chocoboyoga-20″]Amazon[/easyazon_link], Black Library, or Audible.

From the back of the book:

In the void and upon the worlds of Greater Ultramar, the battle for the Imperium continues. Intent on rebuilding his home realm and using it as base to reconstruct the ravaged stellar empire of mankind, the returned primarch Roboute Guilliman proceeds with his war to drive Mortarion and his Death Guard Traitor Legion from the domain of the Ultramarines. But when Guilliman brings his brother to battle upon the diseased plains of Parmenio, the intervention of a greater power in their fraternal struggle threatens to upend the Imperial Regent’s understanding of the galaxy, and his place within it. Primarchs and ideologies clash in this second, thrilling part of the Dark Imperium trilogy.

Questions to consider during and after reading:

  • Did you like the book?
  • What was your favorite part?
  • Typhus is, above all else, a true believer in Nurgle. How does this compare to Mortarion?
  • There is definitely a fight for power within the Death Guard, but is it compelling?
  • How does this depiction of Mortarion contrast to his description in the lore?
  • Do you think Mortarion is an effective leader? Would Typhus be better?
  • How did you react to Mortarion’s conversation with Guilliman?
  • Frater Mathieu is on a mission from God. How do you feel about him? How do you feel about his mission?
