Book Club Book #14: Ashes of Prospero by Gav Thorpe

This episode we’re reading Ashes of Prospero by Gav Thorpe. You can purchase on Amazon, or Black Library. Sorry audio fans, this one’s not available.

From the back of the book:

The grand halls of Fenris grow ever quieter following arduous campaigns. Concerned by his Chapter’s diminishing numbers, the Great Wolf Logan Grimnar entrusts Njal Stormcaller to uncover the remedy of their plight. When a 10,000-year-old enemy embeds itself in the Rune Priest’s mind, it claims the salvation he seeks lies where it all began. On Prospero. Alongside an eclectic company of injured Space Wolves, Thralls and a Trickster who is more hindrance than help, the Stormcaller sets forth. But it soon becomes apparent that greater mechanisms are at work. It is no longer only the Sons of Russ’ fate at stake, but the entire Imperium.

Questions to consider during and after reading Ashes of Prospero:

  • Did you like the book?
  • Which parts really stood out to you?
  • Njal and Izzakar represent two schools of powerful warpcraft. How do they compare and contrast? Would these two have been friends in another time and place?
  • In some ways, Ashes of Prospero reads like an obituary for the Thousand Sons. How did you feel revisiting what is, what was, and what could have been on Prospero?
  • At long last, Horus’s treachery is revealed. How did you feel about this scene? What does it mean for the Space Wolves?
  • 10,000 years later and Magnus is still trying to get to Terra more faster. How does this ploy feel, in terms of Big Events?
  • How did you feel about the ending? Does it effectively set up the Space Wolves for the Post-Rift Imperium?
