Neither of us were excited to read Day of Ascension by Adrian Tchaikovsky, simply because we don’t like the genestealers faction. That said, we like to give new authors a chance. It’s also always good to branch outside of our comfort zone. We gave Peter Fehervari two chances, so of course we must give a brand new author at least one. What’s the worst that can happen, we don’t like it? Fortunately for us, that was not the case. It didn’t take long for apprehension to become pleasant surprise,
This book was short, sweet, and to the point, and yet it had quite a bit to unpack. Sometimes I personally wonder how things could be so awful that Imperial citizens would turn to a cult, and Day of Ascension explained it perfectly. It honestly begs the question of who are the real monsters in not only this story, but also in the entire Imperium of Man.
The genestealers were fun in their own weird way, but we’re excited to get back to the Astra Militarum series with Catachan Devil by Justin Woolley. It’s extras from Predator and Rambo II versus orks, so how could we not be excited about this?
The Day of Ascension by Adrian Tchaikovsky vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts! If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!
Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.
