WH40k Book Club Episode #117 – Imperial Creed by David Annandale

And now we’re finally getting to Imperial Creed by David Annandale, the tale of Commissar Sebastian Yarrick’s first foray as a commissar. He’s young, but not bright-eyed. He hasn’t lost his left eye or his right arm yet. He’s not entirely sure how to best enforce his role. We get to see him before he achieves mythical status, and it was interesting to see that he’s, well, human.

Since we’ve read quite a bit of Ciaphas Cain novels, how does Yarrick stack up next to the reluctant hero? This was quite the 180 from Sandy Mitchell, but at least he wasn’t of the trigger-happy persuasion. He understood that the role of the commissar was to inspire the regiment as a whole, not just inspire them to avoid execution for supposed cowardice. However, he wasn’t always the most upbeat of motivational speakers.

We both ordered new books two weeks ago, but GW hasn’t seen it fit to ship them yet. As such, it’s back into our current Wayback Omnibus rotation we go. Next up is Blood Reaver by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. More Chaos Marines makes Jen’s heart happy.

The Imperial Creed by David Annandale vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts! If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!

Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.

Keri

It was all thanks to a little game called Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that alerted Keri to the intricate world of WH40K. She's not into tabletop gaming, but she loves extended lore. After getting through just one omnibus, it was all downhill from there. She can't leave the local Citadel without $150 in books.
