WH40k Book Club Book 5: The Talon of Horus by Aaron Dembski-Bowden

Every month, Keri and I will be reading a new book in the WH40k universe and discussing it on our podcast. We invite you to read along with us and join in on our conversation via comments, Twitter, email, or vox cast.

This month we’re reading The Talon of Horus by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. You can purchase on Amazon, Black Library, and Audible.

From the back of the book:

When Horus fell, his Sons fell with him. A broken Legion, beset by rivalries and hunted by their erstwhile allies, the former Luna Wolves have scattered across the tortured realm of the Eye of Terror. And of Abaddon, greatest of the Warmaster’s followers, nothing has been heard for many years. But when Horus’s body is taken from its resting place, a confederation of legionaries seek out the former First Captain, to convince him to embrace his destiny and continue what Horus began.

  • Did you like the book?
  • Which parts really stood out to you?
  • How does this first-person characterization of the traitor legions differ from loyalist characterizations?
  • Khayon pontificates a lot about the nature of the warp. What’s your take on his explanations?
  • Speaking of that, Khayon talks a LOT about the gods of the warp, but one is curiously absent. Does this strike you as odd?
  • How does this origin story of the Black Legion compare to the lore? Do you like this better or no?
  • Yet again, brotherhood is a recurring theme in this book. Does this surprise you?
  • What do you think of Khayon’s assessment of Big E? What game is Khayon playing?
