WH40k Book Club Book 2: The Magos by Dan Abnett

Every month, Keri and I will be reading a new book in the WH40k universe and discussing it on our podcast. We invite you to read along with us and join in on our conversation via comments, Twitter, email, or vox cast.

This month, we’re reading The Magos by Dan Abnett. You can purchase it via [easyazon_link identifier=”1784967025″ locale=”US” tag=”chocoboyoga-20″]Amazon[/easyazon_link], Black Library, or Audible.

From the back of the book:

Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn has spent his life stalking the darkest and most dangerous limits of the Imperium in pursuit of heresy and Chaos. But how long can a man walk that path without succumbing to the lure of the Warp? Is Eisenhorn still a champion of the Throne, or has he been seduced by the very evil that he hunts?

Warhammer 40,000’s most beloved anti-hero finally returns in a stunning new novel that pits him against his oldest and most constant foe, and forces him to confront the true darkness of his own self.

Questions to consider during and after reading:

  • Did you like the book?
  • What was your favorite part?
  • The previous Eisenhorn stories were told from first-person perspective. How does the story change without Eisenhorn’s own internal monologue?
  • Along those lines, how do other people’s view of Eisenhorn differ from his own?
  • The timeline of Eisenhorn’s story is all over the place. Is it difficult to reconcile the events and plug them into those we’ve already read?
  • Eisenhorn has always been a “bigger picture” kind of guy. Has this changed? How does this make him different from other WH40k characters?
  • The band more or less gets back together for this book. Who are you most happy to see, and who were you surprised to see or not see?
  • If you had to cast this book as a movie, who would be in your dream cast?
  • What burning questions do you have for the sequel?
