WH40k Book Club #146 – Fire Caste by Peter Fehervari

We’ve been recommended Fire Caste by Peter Fehervari for almost as long as this podcast has been live. After Requiem Infernal and The Reverie, we were never going to give Fehervari another chance. I’ve read a couple of his short stories that I liked, which made me think that maybe he was a better short story writer than a novelist. But we still weren’t going to give him a chance. But thanks to the Black Library’s lack of a publishing schedule and a new omnibus for Fehervari’s The Dark Coil stories, we agreed to finally read Fire Caste.

As much as it’s killed us to admit it, everyone who recommended this book was right. Ya hear that, Skywatcher Adept? You were right.

No, we’re not going to give either Requiem Infernal or The Reverie another glance. We still strongly dislike these and will not change our minds.

Due to the delay of this week’s voxcast, we chose a shorter book in the Wayback that is also on audible so we can get it done in a week. It’s from the Space Marine Battles books, and it’s another story about the Tau, Blades of Damocles by Phil Kelly. This will probably be the closest we ever get to reading a Farsight novel.

The Fire Caste by Peter Fehervari vidcast is on YouTube, Spotify, and Rumble. Of course you can still find the audio podcast on Apple Podcasts and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts. If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!

Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.

Keri

It was all thanks to a little game called Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that alerted Keri to the intricate world of WH40K. She's not into tabletop gaming, but she loves extended lore. After getting through just one omnibus, it was all downhill from there. She can't leave the local Citadel without $150 in books.
