The Armour of Fate by Guy Haley

Amazon | Black Library

Faction: Ultramarines

What it’s about: Roboute Guilliman has been brought back to life by Archmagos Belisarius Cawl and eldar sorcerers. His saviors told him he can never remove his armor, as it is the only thing keeping him alive. However, Roboute does not want to be confined to this armor for the rest of his life, and seeks answers from the eldar as to whether or not what he’s been told is true.

Why you should read it: We rarely see the human sides of Space Marines, especially not when it comes to the Ultramarines. This short story should be read for Sicarius’ reaction to Roboute’s sense of humor alone. The short story also provides a glimpse into why the eldar helped revive him at all.

Additional reading: If you want to learn more about Roboute Guilliman, the only living loyalist primarch actively out in the open, then read Guy Haley’s Dark Imperium trilogy. Thus far, there are only two books, Dark Imperium and Plague War, and both books are absolutely fantastic.

Keri

It was all thanks to a little game called Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that alerted Keri to the intricate world of WH40K. She's not into tabletop gaming, but she loves extended lore. After getting through just one omnibus, it was all downhill from there. She can't leave the local Citadel without $150 in books.
