Book Club #82: Ahriman: Unchanged by John French

Every two weeks we read a new book in the WH40k universe and discuss it on our podcast. We invite you to read along with us and join in on our conversation via comments, Twitter, email, or vox cast.

For this episode, we’re back to the wayback machine! We’re fulfilling Keri’s dreams of finished the Ahriman series with Ahriman: Unchanged by John French. You can purchase it at AmazonBlack Library, or Audible.

From the back of the book:

It has taken many long years and countless sacrifices, but finally Ahriman, former Chief Librarian of the Thousand Sons, now exile and sorcerer, is ready to attempt the most audacious and daring feat of his long life. His quest for knowledge and power has all been for one purpose, and he would now see that purpose fulfilled. His goal? Nothing less than undoing his greatest failure and reversing the Rubric that damned his Legion…

Questions to ponder after reading Ahriman: Unchanged:

  • Did you like the book?
  • What parts stood out to you?
  • More than the other books, this one was particularly an ensemble cast. Which of his followers do you like or dislike?
  • What did you think of Ahriman’s plan? Was it compelling? Did you care?
  • Tzeentch and Magnus are major players without being dominant presences. Did you like this? Again: is it compelling?
  • As a trilogy, does this omnibus work for you, overall? Does it contribute to the overall lore of Ahriman?
  • Do you KNOW Ahriman better? If you had to describe Ahriman to someone in an elevator pitch, what would you say?
  • Does this effectively set up the next steps for Ahriman? As always: what happens next?
