Void King sold out in minutes upon the pre-order release. We’ve never seen that happen for a book that wasn’t a limited edition. It’s true that there hasn’t been a book about just the rogue traders since Andy Hoare’s omnibus, so perhaps that was part of the craze for the book. There is something intriguing about these factions we haven’t really seen much of outside of support roles, such as Mike Brooks’ novel, Rites of Passage. So to say we were excited about Marc Collins’ Void King is putting it mildly.
And then… we read it.
We had a hard time reading and discussing this book. I’d say more, but just watch or listen instead. This is definitely not Marc Collins’ best work.
Next book is about another race we really don’t like, the t’au, but it features another Astra Militarum faction that’s interesting, the Kasrkin! It’s blunt force meets immovable object in prose, and we’re looking forward to consuming it over the Thanksgiving holiday. After we consume lots of “healthy” Thanksgiving food.
The Void King by Marc Collins vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts! If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!
Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.
