When we had Patreon, we covered two books in the Horus Heresy Character series, Valdor and Luther. We loved them both so much, we knew we had to continue reading the series as part of the book club, even though we’re a WH40k book club, not WH30k. So bear with us as we take a trip to the pre-Heresy era, back when there were remembrancers and all the Legions were friendly with one another. Remember when Sigismund and Kharn were buddies? John French remembers in his submission to the Horus Heresy Character series, Sigismund: The Eternal Crusader.
We came into this book with high hopes. Valdor was fantastic. Luther is, without a doubt, the best book Gav Thorpe has ever written. We couldn’t wait to see what French would show us with Sigismund, the First Captain of the Imperial Fists and founder of the Black Templars. Unfortunately, we were so excited for stories like Valdor and Luther that we weren’t prepared for the story format found in Sigismund. We were sadly disappointed.
Next up is a dive back into the post-Rift world of 40k. The Dawn of Fire series continues with Throne of Light by Guy Haley. We had mixed feelings on The Wolftime, so maybe Throne of Light will bring us back on track? Maybe?
The Sigismund: Eternal Crusader by John French vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts! If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!
Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.
