WH40k Book Club Episode #68 – Volpone Glory by Nick Kyme

We’re still all aboard this Astra Militarum train, this time with the Volpone regiments, also known as the Bluebloods. Thus far in WH40k lore, the Volpone have only been in Dan Abnett’s Gaunt’s Ghosts series, and they were the villains. Nick Kyme wanted to illustrate that the Volpone can’t all be bad, because if they were, they would have been excised from the Guard a long time ago. So he crafted a very intricate story about another Volpone regiment during the Sabbat Crusade, Volpone Glory.

Nick Kyme is rapidly becoming one of our favorite authors.

We both really liked the book, and we hope this is the first in a Bluebloods series, as the book cover seems to suggest. Even though I haven’t read any of the Gaunt’s Ghosts books (and do not plan to), I was able to follow along without too many questions. However, a glossary or dramatis personae would have been nice, Kyme.

We’re leaving the Astra Militarum for now for another jaunt with the Necrons. After Oltyx had to flee the Angels Encarmine, what’s next for this dynast? We’re going to find out in The Twice-Dead King: Reign by Nate Crowley.

The Volpone Glory by Nick Kyme vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts! If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!

Shiller after drinking water.

Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.

Keri

It was all thanks to a little game called Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that alerted Keri to the intricate world of WH40K. She's not into tabletop gaming, but she loves extended lore. After getting through just one omnibus, it was all downhill from there. She can't leave the local Citadel without $150 in books.
