WH40k Book Club Episode #67 – Steel Tread by Andy Clark

We love our Spess Mahrines, we really do, but sometimes it’s nice to get the perspective from the other OG humans in the Imperium. The ones who don’t have biological augmentations, fancy armor, or massive bolter weapons. You know, the ones who still have fear? The Black Library and Games Workshop has started a new book series dedicated to the Astra Militarum that they’ve aptly named The Astra Militarum series. Andy Clark wrote the first book in this series, Steel Tread, which closely examines a day in the life of a tank crew.

Spoiler alert: such days ain’t pretty.

While we both liked the book, we had wildly varying opinions as to why, especially when it came to the crew of the Steel Tread. I might have gotten way too heated about a certain character. I’m sorry yet not that sorry?

Next book is about another unit in the Astra Militarum: the Bluebloods! And it’s by an author we haven’t read from since Knights of Macragge! We’re both excited to read about the richy-rich guardsmen in Volpone Glory by Nick Kyme.

The Steel Tread by Andy Clark vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts! If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!

Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.

Keri

It was all thanks to a little game called Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that alerted Keri to the intricate world of WH40K. She's not into tabletop gaming, but she loves extended lore. After getting through just one omnibus, it was all downhill from there. She can't leave the local Citadel without $150 in books.
