We had a great time with Nate Crowley’s ork book, Ghazghkull Thraka: Prophet of the WAAAGH!, and Robert Rath’s necron novel, The Infinite and The Divine. So when a necro book by Nate Crowley pops up, The Twice-Dead King: Ruin, of course we were all on board. Plus, it’s about necrons fighting orks. What’s not to like?
Both of us went into the book with some apprehension, as neither one of us are really big on the necrons. Did this novel turn us around on the necrons who AREN’T Orikan and Trazyn? Do we now understand how the necrons think and feel? Did we expect to learn more about the skin-wearing zombie robots? The answer to the latter is no, no we did not. The answers to the first two can only be found in the podcast.
Now we’re FINALLY getting to Helwinter Gate by Chris Wraight. You know, the book we meant to read a few months ago until we discovered it’s the third in a trilogy? Yes, that’s the one. Jen has kindly been holding onto this book for nearly a year, as she’s had the Limited Edition since last Christmas. She loves you guys that much to hold out. That and she wants me to read about Space Wolves since I make her read about Blood Angels. It’s a fair trade, really.
