A trip with Belisarius Cawl is always amusing, and this genius/heretek is back again in Archmagos with the writer who loves him the most, Guy Haley. This time Cawl is going up against necrons, a greater daemon, Iron Warriors, and one of Guilliman’s historitors. The question everyone should be asking themselves at the end of the book is whether Cawl is the greatest enemy of the necron empire.
As you’ve probably guessed, we loved all of the sections with Cawl. The others dealing with the Iron Warriors and daemons, however, not so much. It’s another case of “what we liked we REALLY liked” and what was meh felt like a slog. Totally understand why it made the top 10 of Warhammer’s Best of Black Library for 2025.
Unfortunately, we aren’t in 2026 with books yet. That’s partly because no new books have released yet, and partly because we’re still in the backlog of the end of 2025! Next up is Vagabond Squadron by Robbie MacNiven. Planes in space seems to be quite the hot topic in the Astra Miliatarum lore these days.
The Archmagos by Guy Haley episode is on YouTube, Spotify, and Rumble. Of course you can still find the audio podcast on Apple Podcasts and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts. If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!
Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.
