We planned to read a new book. We really did. However, we were thwarted once again by the Black Library’s unruly shipping schedule. So we fell back in our reservoir of omnibuses (omnibi?) for Firedrake by Nick Kyme. The last time we left these scallywags, the Third Company was breaking up. They lost yet another captain. The First Company recruited Tsu’gan. Da’kir had to go off for Librarius training. Apothecary Fugis elected to go on a walkabout. And yet the threat of Nihilan and his Dragon Warriors is ever present. How is Third Company coping?
By throwing themselves at dark eldar, apparently.
There were pieces of this book that we liked, but it’s more than obvious that Nick Kyme had not developed his writing chops just yet. He also obviously fell into the rookie trap of using five dollar words to sound smart. You’ll have to watch/listen to see our specific gripes. We also talked about inventing specific alcoholic drinks.
Our new book finally arrived, and we’re so stoked to read more about that Krieg Deathcorps in Siege of Vraks by Steve Lyons. All the happy shovel noises here.
The Firedrake by Nick Kyme vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts! If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!
Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.
