WH40k Book Club Episode #12 – Devastation of Baal by Guy Haley

Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.

As we trudge through what we should have done in the first place, aka read the Rift books from the beginning and in order-ish, our next stop was Devastation of Baal by Guy Haley. This too takes place right as Cadia falls, much like Watchers of the Throne. Also like WotT, Roboute Guilliman appears at the very end to save the day. At this point, he’s a primarch version of Saint Celestine—always showing up when things are the most dire.

But unlike WotT, we struggled to get through this book, which is part of the reason why we had to reschedule this club meeting. Watch/listen to understand why.

Our next book is Honourbound by Rachel Harrison. We’re taking a brief break from Spess Mahrines for Severina Raine, a Commissar of the Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum (which do you prefer?), who seems to be the next big up-and-coming human character.

Since I accidentally preordered the book from two different places, I’m giving one of my copies away. The giveaway will take place on Twitter, and it will require knowledge of this recent voxcast. Better listen closely if you want a free copy!

The Devastation of Baal by Guy Haley vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on iTunes, Google Play, and Stitcher. If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!

Keri

It was all thanks to a little game called Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that alerted Keri to the intricate world of WH40K. She's not into tabletop gaming, but she loves extended lore. After getting through just one omnibus, it was all downhill from there. She can't leave the local Citadel without $150 in books.
