WH40k Book Club Episode #105 – Cypher: Lord of the Fallen by John French

We are officially back on schedule, thanks to the brevity of Cypher: Lord of the Fallen by John French. That said, though, the length of this book was PERFECT. It didn’t overstay its welcome, and it told a succinct story. This book essentially backs up what we’ve been saying, that John French is a great short story and novella writer. Even Jen liked this book, and she hates the Dark Angels.

We worried that maybe French would reveal Cypher’s identity or reveal where his loyalties lie, which would ruin this character and his role in WH40k. Instead, French delightfully danced around the issue, leaving us wanting more. Oh man, what will Cypher do when he hears about the Lion’s return? After the last book, we were so happy to read something so fun.

Next up is The King of the Spoil by new author Jonathan D. Beer. We haven’t had a Warhammer Crime novel in awhile. It’s about time we head back to Varagantua and see additional seedy underbellies of this planet.

The Cypher: Lord of the Fallen by John French vidcast is, of course, on YouTube, and the podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and virtually anywhere else you can find podcasts! If you haven’t read the book yet, better do that before you listen! If you like us, please subscribe or even leave a review!

Each episode will be in a traditional book club format. We will read one mutually agreed upon book to discuss at the club meeting aka podcast. Sometimes we will read brand new books, sometimes we will read old books, but there will be a method to our madness as to why.

Keri

It was all thanks to a little game called Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that alerted Keri to the intricate world of WH40K. She's not into tabletop gaming, but she loves extended lore. After getting through just one omnibus, it was all downhill from there. She can't leave the local Citadel without $150 in books.
