Haven’t read much from this year, so the majority of my nominees will come from before if that is okay.
1. Raine and Fel. As someone who isn’t a shipper, I immediately started shipping them when I read their first evening talk in “Execution.”
2. More a favorite dialogue, but the talk between Calder and Karros about what their Primarchs would think if they saw the state of the galaxy in Apocalypse. Dvorgin’s speech to Achallor to not fail would probably be a close second.
3. The trial scene from Infinite and the Divine.
4. When the techmarine divides his mind into the Alpha and the Omega in The Reverie.
5. The arrival of the Custodes in The Gate of Bones.
6. I would say it’s a tie between Amatnim Ur-Nabas Lash from Apocalypse, Torvann Lokk, and Kar-Gatharr from The Gate of Bones. They’re personable. They’re not mustache-twirling villains. Lokk and his Lodge medal, Lokk and Kar-Gatharr’s friendship, Kar-Gatharr’s being protective of Yheng, and Lash believing the Ecclesiarchy was holding a fellow Word Bearer prisoner, just added so much depth to these characters.
7. For 2021, I would have to say, General Luthor Dvorgin. From his surrogate father-daughter relationship with Kesh to continuing fighting on even after age has started to affect him to standing up to a Custodes, the man was one of the highlights of Gate of Bones.
8. The Gate of Bones.
9. Apocalypse.
10. The Successors anthology. I love learning about the different chapters and a new Peter Fehervari short story is always welcomed. I guess hope all nine Loyalists get representation. Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, and Dark Angels successors are all confirmed so far. I really hope my bird boys get some love. The Raven Guard really needs some representation.
